Oculus and HTC are set to launch their next generation virtual reality headsets at Gamescom later this month, with Oculus promising a new level of immersion and depth, while the Vive promises a “world of games”.
With that in mind, we took a look at what’s new in the games for the Oculus Rift, Vive, and the HTC Vive.
These are the games that we tested, so if you’re looking for more, you can read more about our review methodology here.
The HTC Vive was a bit more challenging, but that’s partly down to the fact that we only tested it with a few developers.
The first thing to note is that the HTC VR headset offers a more realistic experience, while still keeping the Oculus experience to a minimum.
The VR headset is made by the Japanese company ZeniMax and boasts a 10-degree field of view.
You’ll see the same thing in VR in movies and video games.
In the game, you’ll see your avatar walk around a large field of objects, like trees, buildings, and so on.
There’s also an Oculus-style positional tracking system that makes it easier to see the objects that you’re interacting with.
We tried playing the first two games with the Oculus headset and noticed a few things.
One, the field of vision in the game was a little bigger than in the HTC.
This is partly due to the HTC’s “halo” design, which creates a 3D-like effect by combining the VR headset with the Rift’s tracking system.
You’re not looking directly at the screen, but the Rift makes the screen appear to move around the field.
You also get an Oculus VR image, which is actually your avatar moving around a virtual environment.
Two, the VR mode on the HTC was a tad more immersive.
This means you’ll feel as if you’ve actually been in the real world.
This, however, only applies when playing a game, so it’s not the best way to experience VR.
We also noticed that the games on the Vive had slightly less depth, as well as a less realistic field of the screen.
The Rift and Vive don’t have the same depth-of-field features, but it’s still an improvement.
However, when playing games with a controller, it can feel like the Rift and the Vive are closer to each other.
This can lead to a slightly blurry field of images.
The HTC VR and Vive also use different controllers, which we’d expect to cause some headaches for some people.
The Oculus Rift uses a standard mouse and a traditional controller.
However the Vive uses an Oculus Touch controller, which you’ll find in most VR headsets.
The Vive controller is more comfortable to use than the Rift controller, and it’s easy to feel the difference when you’re in VR.
There are two VR games we played that we found particularly difficult to use.
The first is Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was an excellent game that we loved playing, but we found the controllers for it a bit awkward.
The second was the upcoming VR shooter Rocket League, which also features a controller.
The Vive has a number of games in its library that it’s promising for the launch, including the first-person shooter Left 4 Dead, which launched on the Oculus Store earlier this year.
Rocket League and Left 4 DEAD 2 will be available for pre-order later this year, and you’ll be able to pick them up on Steam and on the VR store.
