Tesco says its calculation of the GST is not affected by the rebate.
But the Australian Taxation Office says it is a separate calculation.
“The calculator in question is designed to reflect how the GST applies to the company’s business and does not include the GST on sales to third parties,” an ATO spokesperson said.
“It is not appropriate to include the rebate on a business’s GST bill, nor does it reflect the rebate in the calculations of its GST calculation.”
“The GST calculation is not available for use on GST payments made to the GST Refund Tribunal or the GST Tribunal,” it said.
The ATO said it is not responsible for the GST calculator.
The GST calculator has been criticised by consumers and some businesses. “
You may wish to contact the GST Recorder or the relevant Revenue Service Authority to obtain an explanation of how the calculation is calculated.”
